You’d think with all the coffeehouses and coffee bars that have opened around Ventura County lately, caffeine-loaded locals would be wandering the streets at all hours of the night, unable to sleep.

But such is not the case. So the more coffee establishments, the merrier.

That’s what the folks at the Doubletree Hotel in Ventura are hoping. Two weeks ago, they introduced the Atrium Coffee Bar in the hotel lobby.

The bar features a menu of flavored and liqueur coffees, muffins, pastries and fresh fruit. It’s open Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays, 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The hotel is at 2055 Harbor Blvd.

Here’s further proof that Oxnard’s annual California Strawberry Festival has made it to the big time.

Reddi-wip, a leading producer of whipped topping, is awarding the grand prize winner of its Ultimate Berry Recipe Contest with a weekend trip for two to next year’s festival.

Contestants are asked to submit recipes that include any kind of berry--not just strawberries--and a dollop or two of the sponsor’s product.

If you hadn’t noticed, the Ojai Valley Inn is undergoing some alterations, not the least of which is a significantly changed roster of food service personnel.

Things are still in flux at the moment, but here’s the latest:

Toby Franklin took over the position of food and beverage director about two months ago, leaving Snow Mass in Aspen, Colo. (The same place Thad Hyland, the inn’s new general manager, worked before he transferred to Ojai earlier in the year.)

About a month ago, Shelly Decker left The Peaks, another resort in Colorado, to serve as the Ojai Valley Inn’s director of restaurants.

And, finally, Eric Olson, formerly the chef at the Hilton Hotel in Burbank, is the acting executive chef at the inn, filling the position formerly held by Yvan Lampron. A search for a permanent replacement should be completed in the near future. Look for menu changes shortly thereafter.
