Foothill Division detectives got a break in a 14-year-old murder case this week, arresting a man outside his brother’s home for a 1981 Sylmar murder.

Miguel Angel Rebolledo, 38, of Downey was arrested Wednesday evening as he dropped off his brother and sister-in-law at their house on Capistrano Avenue in West Hills, Los Angeles Police Detective Frank Bishop said.

Rebolledo is suspected of fatally shooting Victor Jimenez at a Sylmar bar in January, 1981.

By checking Department of Motor Vehicle and other records, Detectives Lillian Johnson and Richard Householder found the addresses of several of Rebolledo’s relatives, which eventually led them to Rebolledo’s brother in West Hills.

“Using a ruse, the detectives found out that [Rebolledo] didn’t live there, but that he would be arriving later to drop off some relatives,” Bishop said.

Johnson and Householder staked out the home and subsequently arrested Rebolledo. “He was surprised. He had no idea we were on to him,” Bishop said.

Rebolledo was booked on a felony warrant for murder issued in 1981, Bishop said.
