GRAND HOTELS: Humphrey Bogart spent so much time at the oceanfront Hotel Laguna in Laguna Beach that the door on Room 206 bears his name. Today, it’s the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Dana Point that beckons glitterati. . . . Since the posh hotel opened in 1984, John Grisham, Whitney Houston, Rod Stewart, Elle MacPherson, Madonna, Paul Newman, Cindy Crawford and Kevin Kline are among the notables who have done downtime there. Says the hotel’s general manager, John Dravinski: “They like the anonymity.”

BY A LANDSLIDE: With his library, birthplace and burial ground in Yorba Linda and his former Western White House in San Clemente, former President Richard Nixon is memorialized by more landmarks in Orange County than any other VIP. . . . Mission San Juan Capistrano has a bronze plaque with his name to honor the day he rang the bells there. And El Adobe de Capistrano Restaurant in San Juan Capistrano salutes its most famous patron with a plaque on a chair and a menu item called “The President’s Choice.”

ON LOCATION: John Wayne’s former bay-front home in Newport Beach is still a favorite with fans, but it’s the airport that bears his name that’s hot with movie makers. Touchstone Pictures took its cameras to John Wayne Airport recently to shoot “Up Close and Personal” with Robert Redford and Michelle Pfeiffer, who grew up in nearby Midway City. . . . “They turned baggage claim into a Miami airport,” says Orange County Film Commission spokeswoman Debi Hausdorfer. “Filmdom loves the airport because it’s architecturally beautiful and easy to get in and out of.”

HOLLYWOOD HERE: A grazing ground for celebs such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, Planet Hollywood in Santa Ana has become a tourist spot for film lovers. The attraction: The growing number of movie memorabilia the diners can view. A sampling: A dress worn by Robin Wright in “Forrest Gump,” one of Marilyn Monroe’s costumes from “Bus Stop,” and one eye-grabber: Sharon Stone’s ice pick from “Basic Instinct.”
