Encino : Man Killed by Reserve Officer Is Identified
Police on Tuesday identified a man who was shot and killed by an off-duty Culver City reserve police officer as Nathaniel T. Jernigian, 33, of Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Police Detective Robert Johansen said Jernigian tried to rob Adam Treanor, 25, of Woodland Hills, as he and another employee of the Laemmle Town Center in Encino left work early Monday.
Johansen said Treanor, a reserve officer who is licensed to carry a concealed firearm, fired three times at Jernigian when the robber spun toward him while brandishing a semiautomatic handgun.
Johansen said the shooting appeared to be justifiable self-defense.
