After 13 years in Los Angeles, the Raiders are being heartily welcomed back to Oakland.

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors voted, 5-0, Tuesday to approve the deal that would make the Raiders the first U.S. sports team to return to its roots. The Oakland City Council gave its seal of approval Tuesday night, 9-0.

“It is an economic shot in the arm and one that is symbolic of good things to come,” said Councilwoman Sheila Jordan, who had been a critic of a failed 1990 deal for the Raiders’ return.

The city and county voted to approve a 16-year agreement with Raider owner Al Davis and to issue up to $225 million in bonds to pay for stadium modernization, including the 175 luxury boxes Davis covets.
