COSTA MESA / NEWPORT BEACH : School Superintendent Has Contract Extended
- Share via
The Newport-Mesa Unified School District board has approved a contract extension for Supt. Mac Bernd that will keep him with the district through June, 1998.
Bernd was hired under a three-year contract in June, 1993, to succeed John Nichol, who retired for health reasons.
The school board does an annual review of Bernd’s performance that for the past two years resulted in a one-year contract extension at the same $104,000 annual salary and benefits package.
The board voted 6 to 1 Tuesday to extend the contract.
Board member Martha Fluor, who cast the sole dissenting vote, said she did so not to slight Bernd but to express her general philosophy about contracts.
