The 25-year-old son of Arlene Hoffman, the slain secretary of Orange County Supervisor Jim Silva, said Wednesday he would use part of his inheritance for a $25,000 reward for information leading to the killer.

Charles Hoffman of Yorba Linda said he wants to help police with the investigation by offering the reward.

“I want to give as much as I can to provide some type of closure to our family,” he said. “It’s been a tough year for all of us.”

Last December, Arlene Hoffman bled to death in the foyer of her home after being shot in the chest with an arrow, police said. Hoffman’s husband had died of cancer earlier that year.

The killing happened about a month after Hoffman began working as Silva’s executive secretary. She had been shopping for new clothes for the job the night before her body was discovered, investigators said.

When police arrived, the front door was unlocked and there were no signs of forced entry. Nothing appeared to have been taken from the house and an autopsy did not indicate signs of a sexual assault, police said.
