Magic’s Game Changes Name, Site Because of NBA Lockout

Magic Johnson’s annual charity basketball game has been moved to The Pond of Anaheim and renamed because of the NBA lockout, which, barring a settlement, will also keep Johnson from attending.

The fund-raiser for the United Negro College Fund will still be played July 30, but now in Orange County instead of its usual home at the Forum, ruled out because players are prohibited from using team facilities. And because Johnson is part-owner of the Lakers, he can not have anything to do with the game, now being called the UNCF Mid-Summer Night’s All-Star game.

The switch was cleared when the Anaheim Bullfrogs agreed to reschedule their roller hockey game against the Los Angeles Blades until the next night.
