WATTS : Development Study Open for Review

Share

Community members are invited to review a report detailing the possible environmental impact from a proposed plan to revitalize 10 area retail and commercial corridors.

The report examines the potential impact on traffic, noise, air quality and public services stemming from proposed redevelopment in a three-square-mile area of Watts.

The revitalization plan, which focuses on Broadway, Main Street, Avalon Boulevard and others, has been formulated over the past year by the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency and an advisory committee of local community members.

The proposal, designed to spark commercial and industrial growth with tax breaks and other incentives, is expected to come before the Los Angeles City Council in October.

The environmental study is available for review at the CRA’s Watts office at 1513 E. 103rd St., Room 5, or at the agency’s fifth-floor records center at 354 S. Spring St.

Community members will have an opportunity to comment on the study and other aspects of the redevelopment plan at a meeting Monday at the Watts Labor Community Action Council, 10950 S. Central Ave. Similar meetings will be held on the first and third Mondays of each month through September.

The project area for the proposed redevelopment plan is bounded by the Harbor Freeway, Mona Boulevard, the Century Freeway and 103rd Street.
