Pierre Page, away from the bench for a season, came back to it Monday when he was named coach of the Calgary Flames.

Page, 47, who had been coach and general manager of the Quebec Nordiques until he was fired in May, 1994, was a scout for the Toronto Maple Leafs last season.

After a season as general manager, he added Quebec’s coaching duties.

Page becomes Calgary’s fifth coach in five years and replaces Dave King, who led the Flames to a 23-17-7 regular-season record before losing in the first-round of the playoffs to the San Jose Sharks.
