Caterpillar Inc. reported that its earnings jumped 34% in the second quarter despite a record-long strike by the United Auto Workers.
Caterpillar showed record profit for the quarter despite the 13-month strike. The strike affects eight plants in three states but involves only 16% of Caterpillar’s work force. Overseas sales climbed 20% to $2.01 billion. Weakness in the dollar continues to make American-made products more attractive overseas, helping company sales.
