Lawmakers Ask Investigation of 2 Southland Postal Offices

Share

Concerned that more violence will erupt at postal facilities in Los Angeles County, two congressmen called Thursday for an investigation into management problems at two local sites.

Rep. Esteban Torres (D-Pico Rivera) and Rep. David Drier (R-Covina) asked the federal General Accounting Office to look into labor problems at the City of Industry Processing and Distribution Center and the La Puente Post Office.

On July 9, a supervisor was killed by a postal worker at the City of Industry center. And workers at the post office in La Puente have resorted to street protests and picket lines on a number of occasions to vent their anger and frustration with management.

“We are concerned about the potential for even more violence if the workplace problems at these facilities are not addressed and resolved,” Torres said.

In a letter to the comptroller general of the GAO, Drier asked that the office investigate whether workers at the two sites are harassed or bullied by management.
