MOORPARK : Hockey Rink to Cost an Extra $20,000

The Moorpark City Council will spend about $20,000 more than it had planned to build an outdoor roller hockey rink at the city’s newest park, Arroyo Vista.

The price tag for the rink, which is part of the latest improvements to the $3-million park, is about $80,000.

The plan approved by the City Council on Wednesday night calls for adding hockey goals and a border around the rink to keep the ball in play.

City officials had planned to hire the Tri-Valley Roller Hockey League to manage the rink and set up a league, but the council has since decided to do that on its own, said Councilman Bernardo Perez.

So far, the 69-acre park has a recreation center, a gymnasium and several playing fields.

The city decided more than a year ago to build the rink and capitalize on the increasing popularity of in-line skating, Perez said.

Along with the roller hockey rink, the city plans to build two softball fields, restrooms and a picnic shelter.
