Dornan’s Record

Share

* I greatly appreciate the recent recognition of my legislative achievements as a member of the new majority in Congress. However, I would like to point out that your recent story was incomplete with regards to my recent work on Capitol Hill.

Other achievements that I am proud of include authorizing an additional 7,500 military personnel for high-stress units such as AWACS squadrons, helping secure $170 million for Navy upper-tier ballistic missile defense, winning approval for 20 additional OH-58D “Kiowa Warrior” Army scout helicopters, eliminating the disparity between military and other federal retiree COLAs, and including legislative language to standardize procedures for determining the status and investigative procedures for American POWs/MIAs.

I also have a proud record of legislative achievement over the years as a minority member of Congress, including legislation mandating the death penalty for espionage which resulted in the death of allied agents, test requirements for “friendly-fire” systems which resulted in the production of this equipment, and a program known as “Troops to Teachers” which would encourage soldiers leaving the military due to the drawdown to join the teaching profession. And how about my successful Police Corps legislation?

I also have been directly involved in successful efforts to save and then modernize the B-1B bomber, to continue development of the Marine Corps V-22 tilt-rotor aircraft, and the B-2, and to restore the military pay raise twice canceled by the current President.

Again, I thank The Times for their recent recognition of my efforts on behalf of the citizens of Orange County, but please don’t leave out about 75 hard-fought-for, successful Dornan amendments over the years.

ROBERT K. DORNAN

U.S. Congressman

46th District

* Bob Dornan has raised only [$140,000] for his presidential campaign. Last year he raised over “a million” for his congressional campaign. Apparently, his “special-interest clout” only extends to the Orange County border. Lucky us.
