IRVINE — A 27-year-old man convicted of burglary walked away from the James A. Musick Branch Jail in Irvine early Sunday, an Orange County Sheriff’s Department lieutenant said.
The inmate, Jose Hernandez Laura of Costa Mesa, serving a nine-month sentence, was last seen about 7:30 a.m. working near a cornfield in the northwest section of the jail facility, Lt. Lynn Nehring said.
Laura, who is not considered dangerous, was due to be released in October.
It was the sixth reported escape from the minimum-security jail this year. Eleven inmates escaped in 1994.
