Westside : Hospital OKs Merger With UCLA Facility
Details, details. That’s all that’s left to work out now that the powers that be at Santa Monica Hospital have approved a long-planned merger with the UCLA Medical Center.
Tuesday night’s vote by the hospital board came after the board of UniHealth, the Burbank-based corporation that owns the hospital, gave its blessing to the merger. The university Board of Regents voted Friday.
The new entity will be known as Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center. It will be part of the UCLA Health Network, a community-based group of hospitals, doctor’s offices and physician groups created to serve the Westside and San Fernando Valley.
“Many people have told us that they want to receive their health care from UCLA but also want to get care close to where they live or work,” said Dr. Gerald S. Levey, UCLA’s provost of medical sciences. “We . . . can now provide that service through the UCLA Health Network.”
