2 Companies to Create Combat Games: San Mateo, Calif.-based Electronic Arts Inc. said it will create a series of combat simulation computer games based on military specifications from the publishers of Jane’s Defense Weekly. Electronic Arts said it signed a five-year licensing and development agreement with Jane’s Information Group to create the games under the brand name Jane’s Combat Simulations. The first release will be a helicopter simulation game for personal computers that allows players to engage in realistic combat encounters. Veteran game creator Andy Hollis will program “AH-64D Longbow,” which is scheduled to ship by year’s end. Electronic Arts and its Austin, Tex.-based Origin systems unit will also release “Grace’s SuperFighters,” a modern jet combat simulation based on experimental fighter aircraft.
