Man Drives His Truck Off Conejo Grade

An Oxnard man apparently tried to commit suicide Friday by driving his truck off the Conejo Grade, authorities said.
Traffic backed up on the northbound side of the Ventura Freeway for about two miles immediately after the 2 p.m. accident, Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Larry Meyers said.
“Traffic was tied up mainly with looky-loos,” Meyers said. A helicopter was called in and landed next to the freeway just north of the truck scales, Meyers said.
“That and the police cars and fire trucks caused people to slow and look,” he said.
He said James Wald, 41, was apparently despondent over a domestic problem when he drove his truck through a guardrail and plunged 200 feet over the side.
He was listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit of Los Robles Regional Medical Center on Friday.
