Gallery to Showcase Student Musicians

Hoping to provide a stage for young musicians and boost gallery attendance, the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley will sponsor a series of fall concerts by student musicians at the Thousand Oaks Community Gallery.

The council, which hopes to feature small ensembles and soloists from area intermediate and high schools, is now accepting applications from interested student musicians.

Students should send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to “Concerts,” Arts Council of the Conejo Valley, 482 Greenmeadow Ave., Thousand Oaks 91361. They can also call (805) 499-4355 for information or get sign-up forms at the Arts Council Center, the gallery or the Thousand Oaks libraries.

The free concerts, which will feature four or five different ensembles or soloists, will be held during scheduled art shows at the gallery.

“We’re trying to have other programs in the gallery to enlarge the audience,” said Margaret Travers, the council’s director of membership. “Sometimes combining the visual arts and the performing arts helps to do that.”

The council held similar concerts last spring. Performers included a chorus from Colina Intermediate School, a brass quintet from Thousand Oaks High School and a marimba soloist, Travers said.
