Share

Residents in a lather over gangs can visit a North Hills carwash Wednesday evenings to have their vehicles cleaned and help an LAPD anti-gang program at the same time.

For the past monthJ. Rassamni, owner of the Great American Car Wash, has donated the proceeds from washes given between 6 and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Jeopardy program.

Great American employees are donating their time and labor for the promotion, scheduled to continue through the summer.

“What’s better than helping the kids?” said Rassamni, who is involved with the Jeopardy program in Van Nuys. “They’re our future.”

Washes start at $5. Organizers hope to generate $250 per week and have averaged about $100 per week so far.

The Jeopardy program provides activities for at-risk youths and offers career counseling services. It was launched in 1990 and, according to the LAPD, has an 86% success rate in deterring participants from gang activity.

The Great American Car Wash is at 16919 Roscoe Blvd., North Hills.
