Two men were in custody Tuesday after investigators found guns, ammunition and cash in a burnt shed behind the house of one of the suspects, fire investigators said.

Police and federal Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms authorities were summoned about 3:30 p.m. Monday to the 9600 block of Royal Palm Boulevard after firefighters found a cache of weaponry in a wooden storage shed.

John Gurrieri, 55, and Dale Wilkins, 51, who was visiting Gurrieri, were arrested on suspicion of possession of firearms and receiving stolen property. Both were being held at Orange County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail each.

Firefighters responded to the scene when a caller reported flames coming from Gurrieri’s back yard. The fire apparently was started by an electrical wire that had dropped into a overgrown palm tree, said Garden Grove Fire Capt. Bill Dumas.

The flames spread to the shed, causing about $5,000 to $6,000 in damage, Dumas said.

After firefighters extinguished the blaze in 20 minutes, officials found 18 guns, said John D’Angelo, a spokesman for the ATF.

The suspects, who police said are ex-felons, will be arraigned today in Municipal Court in Westminster.
