South Bay : CROSSING GUARDS
Voters in Hermosa Beach will decide whether to pay $8.90 a year to help children cross the street.
The City Council voted this week to place on the Nov. 7 ballot a parcel tax measure to pay for 12 crossing guards and three alternates. If the city doesn’t find a way to pay for the guards, schoolchildren could have to start crossing streets by themselves next year. In the meantime, the city will share the cost of the guards with the school district.
