Central Los Angeles : City Looks to Revive East Part of Sunset Blvd.
The buzz in Echo Park is about new, thriving coffeehouses, upscale restaurants, thrift stores and taco stands.
City officials, with opinions from residents, merchants and property owners, are working on ways to revitalize Sunset Boulevard between Echo Park Avenue and Alvarado Street.
Right now, that strip largely consists of bargain-priced retail shops and vacant storefronts. A successful face lift would bring a variety of businesses, generate more jobs and promote Echo Park’s artistic and ethnic communities.
Veronica Gutierrez, a representative for Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg, said changes should be seen along Sunset Boulevard by the end of the year.
