PORT HUENEME : Hamilton to Resign From School Board

Share

Hueneme school board member Cheryl Hamilton announced Wednesday that she will resign her post effective Sept. 11 because she is moving out of the school district.

Hamilton’s departure will leave a vacancy on the five-member board that trustees plan to fill by seeking and interviewing candidates, school officials said.

Hamilton has three years left on her four-year term, and the four remaining trustees have authority to appoint her successor.

The Hueneme School District will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Aug. 28 to get residents’ input on criteria to be considered in making the appointment, officials said. It will be held at the district’s headquarters at 205 N. Ventura Road in Port Hueneme.

Candidates for the post will be interviewed on Sept. 5, and the governing board is scheduled to name the new trustee later that day, officials said. The new board member will be sworn in at the regular board meeting on Oct. 23.

Potential board members must reside within the district’s boundaries to qualify for the post. The district is bounded roughly by Channel Islands Boulevard to the north, the ocean to the west and south and Rose Avenue to the east.
