Ventura County residents will have plenty of opportunities for fun this weekend when Oxnard plays host to both the Reggae Jam on the Coast and the Salsa Festival.
Free to the public, the Salsa Festival starts hoppin’ in Oxnard’s Plaza Park at 10 a.m. today and will feature live music, arts and crafts, salsa booths and an exhibit at the Carnegie Museum. The adventurous can practice their steps to the tunes of Hot Sauce, the Estrada Brothers, Los Briates del Norte and others before the festival shuts down at 6 p.m. Sunday.
The Reggae Jam at College Park rocks from noon to 8:30 p.m. today and from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday with bands including Maxi Priest, Third World, The Wailers and Pato Banton.
Reggae fans will also be able to sample African and Jamaican food and comb through booths peddling ethnic arts and crafts.
Reggae Jam tickets cost $22.50 a day, and some of the performance proceeds will go to the literacy program at Oxnard College.
“There is just so much to choose from,” said Janis Flippen, a spokeswoman for Oxnard’s tourism bureau. “Individuals can hear a variety of music, sample international foods and see lots of arts and crafts.”
