Britain’s Queen Mother Elizabeth, wiping tears from her eyes and laughing as children wished her a happy 95th birthday, walked through adoring crowds Friday and then took to a golf cart to greet more fans.

Watching soldiers parade past after firing a 41-gun salute in London’s Hyde Park, she was flanked by her grandson, heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles, and her great grandsons, Princes William and Harry, before hosting a family lunch celebration.

Flowers were piled high on the cart, the “Queen Mum Mobile.”

Wearing an apple green dress, she emerged smiling from the gates of her London house to watch a military band play “Happy Birthday.” She smiled broadly as she leaned on her walking stick.

The Queen Mother, recovering from a cataract operation and still suffering from a foot injury that has at times forced her into a wheelchair, at times looked unsteady on her feet and clutched at her escort before taking to the golf cart.

Fans from all over the world lined up for up to two days for a glimpse of the feisty matriarch, perennial favorite in the House of Windsor after 60 tumultuous years for Britain’s monarchy.
