MALIBU : Firms Hired to Design Civic Center Area

Share

Malibu has picked a team of consultants to draft a development blueprint for the Civic Center area, a swath of about 175 acres south of Pepperdine University that eventually will become a town center.

Two San Luis Obispo companies will spend the next 18 months preparing a specific plan and recommending how best to use the land. The document will offer guidelines on things such as architectural themes, building sizes and where to place pedestrian trails.

“The specific plan is a vision of how this area ought to look and a practical guide of how to do that,” said Vincent Bertoni, a senior planner with the city.

The San Luis Obispo firms--RRM Design Group and Crawford, Multari and Starr--will be aided by a variety of planning and environmental specialists.

The consultants will hold several public meetings to discuss the use of the Civic Center area. A steering committee composed of property owners, city officials and other citizens will advise the consultants. The City Council, which allocated $300,000 for the specific plan, will appoint committee members later this year.
