VENTURA : School Board to Hear Computer Proposal

The Ventura school board is scheduled to hear a report tonight on a new computer system that will track student enrollment, provide districtwide e-mail and link administration and school libraries to the Internet, officials said Monday.

A system is needed to keep track of student enrollment and attendance because the county superintendent of schools office no longer provides that service, said Joseph Richards, business manager for the Ventura Unified School District.

After meeting with teachers, librarians, administrators and counselors, the district prepared a bid document, Richards said. It has received bids from three vendors--Natel, Macrosasi and Digitronics, he said.

The cost of software and electronics will be about $900,000, Richards said. He will ask the school board to approve the staff’s choice of bids at the board meeting scheduled for Aug. 22.
