Castaic : Ex-Deputy Awarded $500,000 to Settle Suit

Share

The Los Angeles County supervisors awarded $500,000 to a former sheriff’s deputy on Tuesday as settlement of her suit alleging she was subjected to a pattern of harassment by male deputies.

Alyson Ann Fox sued the county and the Sheriff’s Department in 1991, claiming that during a six-month stint at Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho in Castaic, male deputies locked her in a jail holding area, placed a dead rat in her locker and called her names.

In one bizarre incident, Fox said that one night while she was on guard duty, three deputies rounded up 10 to 15 inmates who first exposed themselves to her, then masturbated in front of her, and finally, threw food and other objects at her.

None of the deputies involved in the incident still works for the department--two were fired, three others were allowed to quit.

Fox later quit the department. Neither she nor her lawyer could be reached for comment Tuesday.
