San Gabriel Valley : CARD CLUB DEAL
Santa Anita Park racetrack owners are gambling that a proposed Irwindale card club will help add to revenues from horse racing.
Tuesday, Santa Anita officials signed a deal to finance the construction of Irwindale Palace Casino, just off the San Gabriel (605) Freeway. The casino would be the San Gabriel Valley’s first card club.
Arcadia’s Santa Anita Park would become the majority owner if the Legislature changes a law banning publicly traded companies from owning casinos. Another stumbling block: On Oct. 24, Irwindale voters will decide whether they want to allow card clubs in the city.
