BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJORS : Houston Deals for Henneman
The Houston Astros, trying to bolster their bullpen for a playoff drive, obtained reliever Mike Henneman from the Detroit Tigers for a player to be determined. Henneman, the Tigers’ all-time save leader, will replace Todd Jones as the closer for the Astros, who lead in the race for the National League wild-card berth.
Henneman has a 1.53 earned-run average and saves in 18 of 20 chances.
The Astros moved injured pitcher John Hudek from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Henneman on the 40-man roster. Reliever Jim Dougherty was sent to triple-A Tucson to make room on the 25-man roster.
