Plans for an education center moved a step closer to reality this week when the City Council approved zoning changes that would allow construction to begin this fall.

The council voted to change zoning for the area at Euclid Street and Garden Grove Boulevard where the facility will be built. The new code will allow educational use for the parcel.

The city previously agreed to sell four acres of the nine-acre site to Coastline Community College for $1.7 million. In October, the college will begin construction of a 45,000-square-foot, three-story building, expected to be completed within 12 months.
