LANDMARK FILM

While I suppose that any mention of the film version of Paul Rudnick’s “Jeffrey” is welcome, it’s sad that writer Patrick Pacheco addressed the same old issues whenever any film dealing with homosexuality is released and failed to acknowledge “Jeffrey’s” important contribution to gay cinema (“The Sound of Two Men Kissing,” July 30).

For me, being gay is no hindrance to being captivated by any love story, no matter who the participants are--if it is true , and I care about at least one of the lovers. I don’t see how a “straight” audience can react any differently toward identifying with a homosexual man. Love is a universal language.

One hopes that “Jeffrey” will be the breakthrough film that will allow its straight audience to discover that us gays aren’t that much different where our hearts are concerned, and that the film will be financially successful, so that other gay love stories, like Patricia Nell Warren’s modern classic “The Front Runner,” might see the light of the silver screen.
