Valleywide : Temperatures Again Top 100-Degree Mark

Temperatures pushed past the century mark in parts of the San Fernando Valley once again Sunday, continuing a trend of high summer temperatures.

“They have been consistent for the last couple of weeks,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Dandrea.

Thermometers in Woodlands Hills hit a high of 101 degrees Sunday, but reached only 95 in Burbank. In the Santa Clarita Valley, Newhall registered a high of 98. For the next few days, high temperatures in the San Fernando Valley are expected to reach up to 102 degrees.

Hot weather is the norm just about everywhere in the country this week, with a high-pressure system that literally stretches from coast to coast, Dandrea said.

An exception in Southern California has been in the coastal communities, which have been chilly, Dandrea said. But the marine layer has not been deep enough to push over the mountains and cool off the Valley.

“We might see the marine layer late in the week, maybe Friday” in the Valley, Dandrea said. “That may give us some relief.”
