Burglar Linked to Murders of 2 Women

Los Angeles police used computer fingerprint technology to connect a convicted burglar with the killings of two Hancock Park women, a spokesman said Monday.
In April, the Police Department’s Automated Fingerprint Identification System matched the prints of Oswaldo Ernesto Perez, 21, to those at the crime scene of Panayota (Penny) Nanopoulos, said Detective Rick Jackson.
Nanopoulos, a 39-year-old attorney, was stabbed to death in her home in the 1100 block of South Dunsmuir Avenue on April 29, 1991.
Through their investigation, detectives learned that Perez is serving a prison sentence for residential burglaries committed in 1991 in the Hollywood and Wilshire areas, Jackson said.
Detectives also have linked Perez to the Feb. 1, 1991, killing of Pansy Nakamura, 26, who was shot to death in a rear guest house in the 600 block of South June Street, he said.
