Two key San Fernando financial officials have resigned to take positions of greater responsibility at other government agencies.

Former Finance Director Lou Delgado, hired just three months ago from the city of South El Monte, where he had been finance officer, quit on July 31, said City Administrator Mary Strenn.

“He was wooed back to South El Monte,” Strenn said. Delgado’s new job title with South El Monte is Deputy City Manager/Director of Administrative Services, Strenn said.

A day after Delgado’s resignation, Sandra De La Riva, budget coordinator and assistant to the city administrator, also announced she had accepted a position with the county Department of Parks and Recreation.

De La Riva, who worked for the county prior to taking her position with San Fernando about a year ago, developed the city’s budget this year and received kudos from the City Council and other staff for her detailed preparation and presentation. De La Riva will continue working through the end of this week.

“It will be hard to replace Sandra,” Strenn said. “We know why her former employer wanted her back.”

George Kaenel was hired as interim finance director while the city seeks a full-time replacement for Delgado.
