REWARD OFFERED: The owner of a Downtown jewelry store who was handcuffed to his safe and hit with a baseball bat by a robber armed with a shotgun is offering a $25,000 reward for information on the crime.

Two robbers wearing ski masks were waiting for the owner of West Coast Jewelry Center, 610 S. Broadway, when he returned about 7 p.m. on Aug. 2, Los Angeles Police Detective Jack Luther said.

The store owner was forced to hand over $15,000 in cash and $80,000 in jewelry, mostly gold rings, Luther said. After the robbers fled, he used his head to break a window and then yelled for help. The reward is offered to anyone providing information that leads to the identification and conviction of the suspects. Luther can be reached at (213) 485-2671.
