LAGUNA NIGUEL : Council Supports Law on Base Reuse Rights

Share

The city this week became the second South County municipality to declare that it will push for changes in how military base redevelopment rights are awarded.

Cities next to the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, scheduled for closure in a few years, are seeking the California League of Cities’ support for legislation that would guarantee local governments sharing a border with a closing military base a say in the future use of the land.

“One of the concerns to come out of the El Toro reuse [situation] is what happens to other counties affected by base closure,” said Terry Dixon, Laguna Niguel’s city attorney.
