THOUSAND OAKS : Teen-Ager Gets 6 Years in Shooting

An Oxnard teen-ager was sentenced Friday to six years in prison for his role in the shooting of a Westlake restaurant owner during an attempted robbery in March.

Rady Doria, 17, pleaded guilty last month to two felony charges stemming from the March 3 incident, which began in Westlake and ended in Newbury Park after the victim chased Doria and an accomplice in his car--despite being shot in the neck.

According to court records, Doria and Henry Mabalot, 20, of Oxnard, went to Thousand Oaks to rob someone. They chose Moez Megji, 35, of Calabasas, after spotting him outside his business at Fin’s Seafood Grill on Westlake Boulevard.

Mabalot confronted Megji and demanded money, then almost immediately shot him. While Doria drove from the scene, Mabalot, seated in the front passenger seat, fired at Megji as the restaurant owner chased them.

Megji telephoned police from his car phone during the chase, officials said. Doria and Mabalot were arrested in Newbury Park.

Mabalot pleaded guilty in April to an assault charge and was sentenced to seven years in prison, Deputy Dist. Atty. Kim G. Gibbons said.

Doria pleaded guilty to assault with a semiautomatic weapon and discharging a firearm at an occupied vehicle. He was prosecuted as an adult after being found unfit to remain in juvenile court.

Superior Court Judge Allan L. Steele ordered Doria kept at the California Youth Authority for the duration of his sentence. Doria’s incarceration is considered a prison sentence and can be used against him if he commits crimes in the future.
