Jury selection for the trial of former Cal State Northridge football player Jonathan Beauregard has been delayed because there are no available courtrooms in San Bernardino Superior Court, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Cheryl Kersy.
The trial was scheduled to be begin Aug. 14, but it appears a jury will not be picked until some time next week, said a spokesperson with the San Bernardino District Attorney’s office.
Beauregard, 23, is charged with two counts of attempted murder. A starting lineman for the Matadors the last two seasons, Beauregard was in custody for six days at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga before posting $100,000 bail on Oct. 25.
He is accused of shooting his former girlfriend and her male acquaintance outside a San Bernardino bar on Aug. 29, 1994.
At a January preliminary hearing in San Bernardino a judge ruled that there is enough evidence to try Beauregard on two counts each of attempted murder and using a handgun to inflict great bodily injury.
Beauregard has pleaded innocent to the charges.
