Two Escape From Musick Branch Jail; 7th Break This Year
In the seventh escape incident this year, two men fled the James A. Musick Branch Jail in Irvine Saturday night by climbing a fence, prompting a search with bloodhounds and helicopters, Sheriff’s officials said.
Officials at the minimum security facility noticed Rigoberto Maya, 33, of San Juan Capistrano and Peralta Jaramillo, 24, of Anaheim missing from the north compound about 9 p.m., said Lt. Jay Mendez.
The men appeared to have climbed a fence, he said.
Maya was serving time for possession of narcotics and Jaramillo was serving time for vehicle theft and receiving stolen property, Mendez said.
“Neither one of them is considered dangerous,” Mendez said.
Sheriff’s officials dispatched K-9 units, several patrol units, bloodhounds and a helicopter to search for the men.
On July 23, an inmate escaped while working in a cornfield in the northwest section of the jail. Earlier in the month, three inmates escaped the minimum security facility by crawling under a fence and climbed over another topped with razor wire.
Eleven inmates escaped in 1994.
