OJAI : Measures Backed for Funding Libraries
Several Ojai Valley citizens are banding together to support funding for the region’s three libraries threatened with sharp budgetary cutbacks.
Save the Ojai Valley Libraries is focusing its efforts on encouraging residents to pass measures N and O on the November ballot.
“Passage of these measures will assure funding for our libraries, no matter what the politicians or bureaucrats do,” said Lisa Meeker, who chairs the new citizen group. “For about 10 cents a day per family, we can make sure that these important community resources stay open and functional.”
Measures N and O would impose a $35 parcel tax on properties in the valley that would be used exclusively for library purposes. The funds would augment, not replace, state library funding. The measure requires a two-thirds vote for passage. For more information about the group, call 649-4607.
