The USC coaching staff is still calling the quarterback competition between Brad Otton and Kyle Wachholtz even.

“It’s amazing how they even everything out every day,” said Mike Riley, offensive coordinator.

“Kyle will have a better practice, then Brad will have the better one at the next one.

“We’re not really thinking now about who starts in the opener [Sept. 9 against San Jose State]. [Coach] John [Robinson] just told us to get them both ready.”

USC has replaced O.J. Simpson’s stolen Heisman Trophy with a duplicate.

Simpson’s, as well as the Heismans of Charles White, Marcus Allen and Mike Garrett, are displayed in the Heritage Hall lobby. Simpson’s was stolen a year ago.

Tempers ran short at Monday’s morning practice. Reserve lineman Dong Koo was chewed out by both Robinson and line coach Mike Barry for holding a teammate by the face mask and kicking him during a fight.

Two plays later, another reserve lineman, David Pratchard, started another fight and Robinson kicked him out of practice.
