VENTURA : Laker to Sign Free Posters for Children
Los Angeles Laker and former Ventura College standout Cedric Ceballos will autograph free posters for children this afternoon as a prelude to the fourth annual Pirates-Alumni Basketball Game and Sports Auction.
Ceballos will sign posters of himself in action from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Jano Graphics, 4893 McGrath St., Ventura.
On Saturday, the National Basketball Assn. all-star will attend a dinner and sports memorabilia auction at the Doubletree Hotel, where former Ventura College basketball Coach Phil Matthews will be on hand.
A clinic will be held Saturday at Ventura College, where Ceballos will teach children 10 and older the fundamentals of basketball. After the clinic, a Ventura College Pirates-alumni basketball game will be played.
“This year’s weekend promises to be the most entertaining ever,” said Stan Yates, who heads the organizing committee. “This year’s dinner and sports auction will feature a roast of Cedric by prominent NBA players, past teammates and others that have seen him rise to stardom.”
The Laker Girls are scheduled to perform at the alumni basketball game, and hundreds of prizes will be given away to audience members, Yates said.
All proceeds from the events will be shared between the Ventura College men’s basketball program and the Boys & Girls Club of Ventura.
