Obituaries : * George H. Emanuel; Supported Youth Baseball

George H. Emanuel, a longtime youth baseball supporter, died Monday of a heart attack in Ventura at the age of 79.

Emanuel was born July 30, 1916, in Chicago. He was a sheet-metal worker until retiring to Camarillo from Inglewood 17 years ago.

Active in youth baseball, Emanuel had been in charge of umpires for the Pleasant Valley Little League, which gives an annual award in his name. In 1958, he had started Little League baseball in south Inglewood so his son, Philip Emanuel, could play.

In addition to his son, who lives in Victorville, he is survived by his wife, Venetta Emanuel, of Ventura; two daughters, Darlene Knapp of Oakhurst and Nadine Erickson of Camarillo, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Islands, Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Conejo Mountain Memorial Park and Funeral Home.
