Three armed robbers who ordered bank employees to “hit the floor” in a bank takeover Wednesday got away with about $10,000, authorities said.

The robbers hit the Landmark Bank, 4875 La Palma Ave., about 10:10 a.m., La Palma Police Capt. Jeff Kirkpatrick said.

Kirkpatrick said they pointed handguns at employees after they announced the robbery. No one was injured.

The robbery followed a tragic bank holdup in Pomona on Tuesday where robbers shot and killed a female teller.

Kirkpatrick said there was no link between the two cases “at this time.”

The La Palma gunmen were older, black men, and were described as having medium, thin and stocky builds, respectively, in contrast to the Pomona robbers who were described as in their mid-20s with athletic builds, said Kiara Andrich, an FBI spokeswoman in Los Angeles.

The La Palma robbers ranged in age from 30 to 35 years, she added.

The robbers fled the Landmark Bank in a blue Buick sedan headed west on La Palma Avenue. But they later abandoned the car and got into a second car and fled the city, police said.

As of Wednesday, Southern California banks and savings institutions have reported 637 robberies this year, Andrich said. Of that figure, the FBI reports that 108 were bank takeovers similar to the Pomona and La Palma robberies, she said.
