Share

Richard Core, a lifelong Ventura resident and owner of a boat shop, has died. He was 56.

Core died at his home Monday after heart failure, said his son, Dale Core of Ventura.

Born in Ventura, Richard Core attended Ventura High School and Ventura College. After finishing his two-year college program, he worked at a gas station and drove a school bus, his son said.

About 1961, he made friends with some Marines and through them he learned how to fix boats. In 1971, he opened Dick Core Marine in Ventura--where he fixed boats, his son said.

Core enjoyed reading and was active in several county organizations, including the East Ventura Lions Club, the Ventura County Scottish Rite Bodies and the Dennison Park Foundation.
