Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man who tried to rape an 18-year-old woman but fled when she hit him over the head with her purse, authorities said.
The attack happened inside a gated Laguna Niguel community on Via Ladera south of Street of the Golden Lantern about 10:45 p.m. Monday, when the man tackled the woman as she was walking to a friend’s house, Sheriff’s Lt. Ron Wilkerson said.
The woman struggled against the man’s attempts to tear her clothes and struck him with her purse.
He ran toward the Ocean Ranch shopping center, Wilkerson said.
The unarmed attacker was described as white and probably in his 30s, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall with brown hair, brown eyes and a mustache, investigators said.
He was wearing a black sweat shirt, blue jeans, tennis shoes and a black baseball cap with white lettering, Wilkerson said.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the man to call (714) 647-7419 or (714) 834-6491.
