How best to honor police for making a crime-plagued neighborhood safer?
Residents of the Pico neighborhood in Santa Monica are throwing a party Sunday in recognition of the results of police drug sweeps a week ago that culminated in a dozen arrests.

Police Chief Chief James T. Butts and five bicycle patrol officers who are assigned to the neighborhood will be presented with awards at the celebration, to be held in the 1800 block of 18th Street from 1 to 5 p.m.
