33 1/3 IS BEAUTIFUL

Share

I am really glad to hear that a major label is planning to produce high-quality vinyl LPs again (Pop Eye, Aug. 20). Hopefully, other labels will follow suit. I am slowly realizing that most of the CD counterparts to my LPs sound inferior in almost every way.

I find it disappointing that MCA chose to cross-promote Technics turntables as a playback medium. MCA Chairman Al Teller, who claims to be a vinyl junkie, states that the new records will be first-class all the way. Playing a new, beautifully remastered and newly pressed LP on a $79 turntable would not seem to make much sense to the type of audiophile/collector crowd he is shooting for.
